Quote of the Day

An elected official cannot remain silent during an investigation, that is clear. The right to remain silent is a basic right for anybody who is under investigation, and each person under investigation will decide for himself how he wants to deal with that. I hope each one is found to be innocent, but I repeat and say that I will fight against corruption in the public sector.

-- MK Yitzchak Herzog, referring to the announcement of MK Faina Kirshenbaum's resignation and intention to exercise her right to remain silent in the investigation against her.

Herzog gets QotD for this statement because in 2000 Herzog himself was investigated for his involvement in the funding and fundraising of millions of shekels of donations to Ehud Barak's political party through fictitious organizations. The case ended up being closed because Herzog exercised his right to remain silent.

  1. Is there a web site that will have more information about that investigation and Herzog's silence? Thanks.
