pre-election musings

musings on initial election preparations and grandstanding:

1. representatives of the Arab parties have complained to Yuli Edelstein that March 17 elections does not give them enough time to prepare, and they requested a delay.

I say they should be ignored. not because they are Arabs, but because it is a ridiculous claim. They have exactly the same amount of time as every other party to be prepared or not. If they are so disorganized that they cannot be prepared in time, it is their own fault. If they need so much more time than everybody else, maybe it is time to make some changes in their internal systems.

2. Tekuma is grandstanding in their negotiation with Habayit Hayehudi. They are threatening to split off and run on their own.

Unless they make a pact with Eli Yishai, with Tekuma taking a couple seats from habayit Hayehudi and Yishai taking a couple seats from Shas, it is an empty threat. Does Tekuma really think they can, on their own, get enough votes to hit the minimum threshold?

  1. That is the big Tekumah gamble that quickly became useless. To their credit, Tekuma itself is not the goal, but rather that they represent the Torani DL sector. Yesterday though, Arutz 7 reported on a new Torani group with well known DL VIPs that plans to enter the BY and run for seats. This essentially makes Tekuma's threat quite empty. They themselves do not have stars that managed to shine too bright in the last year. They also allowed themselves to get gobbled up under the BY brand which was well nurtured by them as well. Who will the create the Ichud Leumi brand with? Tekuma is 'old' and frankly unknown.
About the Arabs, well, they have a lot of work to do since the Jews forced them to get united. Three very different parties and none of them might pass the threshold.
