The street cleaner and his chavrusa (potd)

With all the nareshkeit news being produced by the frum community, it is nice to see some good news as well on occasion.

Yaakov Vieder, head of the Haredi camp of the Likud, posted the following picture and description to his Facebook page the other day:

Vieder writes:
This week, one Tel Aviv morning in a neighborhood not "suspected" of having too many religious people, to put it lightly, a street cleaner, not religious, walked with one handing holding his broom and the other hand dragging his garbage wagon. Step after step, another blown wrapper, another wrinkled tissue passed into the green can on the cart.

Walking with him was an avreich with a dignified appearance, a gemara in his hands, and the two of them are submerged in the depths of a discussion about the tractate. Hadar Jabotinski pulled out her camera and captured the beautiful moment and pointed out to me the oh so unique sight that only the Jewish nation could include:  "this is my friend" the street cleaner explained, pointing to the avreich, "and he learns with me while I work".

אשריכם ישראל.

  1. Hmmm almost reminds me of when another national political party rep posted something about street cleaners on his FB page. Almost.

  4. My real question is whether there's an age limit on the use of "avreich".
